How To Cheat at a French Mani

Hello, there! Well, I figured out a way to make a French Mani easier than using globs of white "French Tip" polish. I got the idea from bubzbeauty on YouTube, and tweaked it a little, to use what I had. Here are pics of the finished product:

Ya like my Hello Kitty spoon? Got it at Yogurtland. Hellz yeah.

The pics don't do it justice. I mean, it's not GLITTER, but it still makes the mani look polished and clean with that extra oomph. It shimmers like a Twilight vampire's skin... D: I might do a video tutorial on it; I might not. I don't think I'd be very good at editing, but we'll see.

Battle Of The Boxes: Boudoir Prive VS GlossyBox Aug 2011

Welcome to my first Battle Of The Boxes!  Here's the first review, and it's of the Boudoir Prive Box:

And here's my second review, it's of the GlossyBox and a comparison between the two:

And the winner is.................
............. Boudoir Prive!  Personally I thought the Boudoir Prive box felt more personal and luxurious, whereas the GlossyBox felt a little cheap.  It wouldn't be fair to make a conclusion based on these boxes alone as it's Boudoir Prive's first box, and things might change, so we'll have to see what happens in Battle Of The Boxes next month!

I'll be posting reviews of the products after I've tested them, either at the end of this month or the beginning of next month.  See you soon beauty nerds! xx

ST:TNG Captain's Shirt Look

Ok, guys. Bare with me, as I attempt a tutorial of a makeup look inspired by Picard's and Riker's shirts in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Here we go:

First prime your eyelids, to prevent your eyeshadow from creasing. I used Soft Ochre Paint Pot by MAC.

Next, with my Sephora Double-Ended Smudge/Shadow brush, I pat on Addicted (a red mineral shadow w/ shimmer) by Beauty From The Earth, covering 3/4 of the eyelid.

With my Sephora #13 rounded crease brush (a fluffy brush with a dome shape), I take Tijuana from the Kat Von D Memento Mori palette and put that in the crease, and cover the remaining 1/4 of my lid. Make sure you blend it out really well.

With the Smudge end of the Sephora Smudge/Shadow brush, I take a little more Tijuana and lightly smudge it under the lower lashline.

Next, as your highlight, under your browbone, take Agatha Pink (a light peach with shimmer, or you can use something close to your skin tone), from the Memento Mori palette on your shadow brush and lightly sweep it on, blending out the crease color.

Now, for mascara! Curl your lashes. I'm using the Tarte Eyelash Curler.

Apply your favorite mascara. I'm using the Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-benefit Mascara.

You can stop here, if you like, but I wanted to intensify the look, to look dark, mysterious and... Star.. Trekky... so I used the Rimmel Eye Kohl in 061 Jet Black on my waterline.

That's it! Here's the finished look!

I hope you Trekkies, Trekkers, and makeup geeks liked this look. This was just something quick that I thought of, with nothing else done to the face. Foundation, powder and lips can really be anything, depending on your preference. Please leave comments below if you liked this look!

Return From Real Life

Almost exactly one year ago, I started this blog, with the full intent of updating it on a regular basis, but it was put on the wayside, in favor of failing a whole term of college. DX

As it turned out, the IsQueen BB Cream didn't work for me. I liked the feeling of the formula, but the shade was too light (it only comes in two shades: light and lighter. XD) and I still broke out, no matter how often I used it. BB Creams are a nice idea, but this one in particular didn't work on my skin. Because of all the stresses of the past year, I've been lucky to have clear skin, period. While I was in Guam, on vacation, this summer, I discovered the joys of Lily of the Valley 99% Aloe Vera gel. That stuff is no joke. Every day that I used it, my skin cleared up! I thought it was a miracle! Seriously, if you have skin as dry as the sands of Tatooine OR as greasy as the Dagobah swamp, then this stuff is for you.

Holy A$$crackers, Batman! DC Shoes released a Ken Block vid on YouTube! A MUST-SEE.

This was just quick, to let people know, if anyone even READS this blog, that I'm alive and well, and I'll hopefully continue this moar often. Please, leave questions, comments below!!

Sleek Haul! Part 2: Pout Paints!!

So this is the second part to my Sleek haul, and this is about the brand new Pout Paints! Sleek's alternative to OCC's Lip Tars.  I went ahead and bought all of them, so I have all 11 shades, I've yet to try mixing them but when I do I'll make a post about that.  But before I get to the Pout Paints I also had a free gift from Sleek, because I spent so much money, and it was a Mini High Shine Gloss, and I got to choose the colour so I went for the darkest of them, which was a kind of brown-red colour with gold.  And here it is:

And here's it swatched:

It's quite pretty, a very nude colour with a hint of gold and quite a lot of shine.  I was quite impressed with this actually as I normally don't like lip glosses, but this was no where near as sticky as most lip glosses, and it smelled like coconut so I fell in love with it instantly.

Right now that that's done, we can focus on the important stuff, Pout Paints!

This is he whole collection, from Top Left to Bottom Right we have: Peek-A-Bloo, Minx, Mauve Over, Rosette, Lava, Pinkini, Milkshake, Peachy Keen, Port, Cloud 9, and Pin Up.  I have to say my favourites from this collection are Pin Up, Lava, Mauve Over and Port.  They all apply really easily.  But only ever apply them with a brush, do not use your fingers as they will stain them.  They have great staying power and amazing pigmentation, I absolutely love them!  Now it's time for all the swatches:

Mauve Over

Peachy Keen

Cloud 9

Pin Up

So there they are.  They're absolutely amazing to work with, as long as you clean up any mistakes quickly it won't stain, they are super pigmented and really vibrant and fun.  There were a few that weren't as pigmented as the others, or a little thinner than the others and they were: Peek-A-Bloo, Peachy Keen and Cloud 9, but if you were to layer them on after they'd dried, they'd be more pigmented.  They have really great staying power and aren't really drying at all.  They also feel great on the lips as they're not sticky at all like a lip gloss, and they don't feel as heavy or thick as a lipstick, in fact they're so light you can hardly notice you're wearing them.  I'm really in love with these products.

You can get these for £4.99 each at the Sleek Website and also at some Superdrug stores, the Sleek Website will be able to tell you which stores stock Sleek products near you.

I hope you liked these swatches, these will definitely be appearing in a lot of my tutorials, they really are incredible, so don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel CatsCosmetics so you can keep up to date with all my videos and tutorials.

Sleek Haul! Part 1: I-Divine Palettes

So I recently decided to invest in some Sleek products, and here's the I-Divine Palettes that I bought:

I'll start off by showing you the Sunset Palette:

Here's what's inside:

This palette has a beautiful selection of burnt reds, I have to admit I love all these colours, they're all very warm and pretty.  They're very pigmented which is great so a little will go a long way.  Here are the swatches, the top row is without a primer, and the bottom row is with Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer underneath:

As you can see, even without primer they're still very pigmented, but more so with the primer, especially with the paler colours towards the end. They're really soft and easy to apply.

Next we have the Limited Edition Monaco Palette:

Here's the inside:

I love these colours, they're bright and yet still delicate, I like that mix.  They're much cooler colours, with a few warmer tones. They each have their own name, so from Top Left to Bottom Right they are:  Bamboo, Aquamarine, Midnight Garden, Sunset, Washed Ashore, Magenta Madness, Summer Breeze, Sand Walker, Kiwi Zest, Lotus Flower, Humming Bird and finally Moors Treasure.  Kiwi Zest and Humming bird have and undertone of gold in them, which I think is gorgeous.  So here's them swatched, the left row is without primer and the right row is with Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath:

Again you can see that even without primer they're still very pigmented, the primer really helps bring out the paler colours, such as Bamboo which is nearly invisible without primer.  These were also very soft and easy to apply.

Next we have the Limited Edition Curacao Palette:

And here's the inside:

This is a very bright and fun palette, there's a little bit of everything in it, and yet it still all seems connected which is really great. There's more mattes than shimmers in this palette too which is great, especially when they are so pigmented, this palette also contains the most pigmented matte yellow I own, I find it really hard to find super pigmented matte yellows without spending a fortune so this was great.  These are also named, and what's really awesome about them is that they're named after cocktails, so from Top Left to Bottom Right we have: Tequila Sunrise, Martini, Blue Hawaiian, Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, Green Iguana, Apres Midori, Blue Lagoon, Purple Haze, Green Martini, Singapore Sling, and Espresso Martini.  Here's them swatched, the left side is without primer and the right side is with Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath:

Once again you can see just how pigmented they are even without primer.  I really love this palette, it's so much fun, all the colours are just so bright and colourful.  Considering this palette was mostly mattes it was very soft and easy to apply.

Lastly we have my favourite palette the Acid Palette:

Here's the inside:

I'm completely in love with this palette, I absolutely adore the neon colours, this palette is mostly mattes too, which I love.  These are super pigmented, but the neon colours definitely need a primer to really pop.  I really can't wait to use these colours, they're so much fun and so bright.  The first green on the bottom row is really interesting, it's a matte olive colour with a gold shimmer in it, I thought it was a really great shadow because of that clash of textures.  Here's them swatched, the left side is without primer, the right side is with Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath:

As you can see the neons are stronger with the primer.  It's a very interesting selection of colours, but they work together.  I am definitely in love with this palette.  It was very soft and easy to apply.

I hope you liked these swatches, I'm going to be doing another post about Sleek's brand new Pout Paints after this one, so check that one out.  I'm also going to be doing a tutorial based on each one of these palettes on my YouTube Channel CatsCosmetics very soon, so go subscribe and look out for those, they're going to be a lot of fun!

All these palettes can be bought for £6.49 from the Sleek Website or from some Superdrug stores, it'll tell you on the Sleek Website which stores near you stock Sleek products.

Green Nail Varnish Swatches!

Hey beauty nerds!  Now it's time for the green nail varnish swatches.  Green is one of my favourite colours for summer, sadly I only have three green nail varnishes, I seriously need to invest in some more.  So this will be a shorter swatch post than normal, but they'll be some more on the way very soon!

Here goes, first up we have L.A Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in 'Palm Tree'

And here's what it's like on the nails:

It's a very bright pure green, it's a really great colour.  As you can tell it is quite sheer, even after two coats you can still see the nail underneath.  So I'd suggest three coats for perfect coverage.  I bought this for £1 at my local Harry Tuffins store.

Next we have, Nyx Girls Nail Varnish in 'Garden'

Here's it on the nails:

This colour is amazing.  It's a bright almost neon pale green, it almost glows on your fingers, I really love it.  The only problem is it's very very sheer, as you can see by the picture, after two coats you can still see almost all the nail.  I'd suggest a good three coats for good coverage, but it's worth it for this awesome colour!  I got this for around £1.50 from discount beauty store All Wellan Good at Cheshire Oaks designer outlet.

And lastly we have L.A Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in 'Current'

Here's it on the nails:

This colour is so amazing.  It's a brilliant serpent green, it reminds me a little of Medusa.  With a yellowy-green base, and green, blue, silver, and gold tones in it, it's definitely a colour I haven't seen before.  And I'm in love with it.  My only issue is just how sheer it is, it's definitely the most sheer out of all of these greens. (What is it with my greens being so sheer?!) You'll definitely need three or four coats to give good coverage, but it'd definitely be worth it because this colour is incredible.

And that's all my greens for now, I'm definitely purchasing some more.
